Austin: Van Boeckmann-Jones Co., Printers, 1919. 37pp. Original printed wrappers, stapled. Minor wear to spine, text block neatly separated from staples, a few short closed edge tears, mild creasing and toning. Very good. Item #5219

A rare report regarding the courses of study, infrastructure, faculty, as well as the budgetary, staffing, and other needs at Prairie View A&M University in Texas just after the conclusion of the First World War. The work contains a transmittal letter by John Guion, President of the Board of Directors, a "Report of the President of the College" by University President W.B. Bizzell, budgetary tables, sections on the religious activities, athletics, progress reports from the various departments, information on faculty and staff salaries, propositions for further needs and improvements for the school, and more. Unique to this edition of Prairie View's biennial report appears over the course of three of the report's last eight pages, which contains a "Report of Educational War Activities." This report details "the Emergency War Training at this institution," which included industrial training for American soldiers, for which Prairie View was "well fitted." The report ends with several pages of "Recommendations" for improvements at the school. OCLC has very scattered holdings for Prairie View reports, but it appears that only the Texas State Archives holds a copy of the present work.
