Rare serigraph poster by Louie Ewing advertising an "Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial" celebration in "The Indian Capital" of Gallup, New Mexico over the course of four days in August 1968. The central image of the poster shows a Navajo in traditional dress astride a yellow horse in a desert setting. Louie H. Ewing (1908-1983) utilized serigraphy in much of his art and developed a style uniquely his own and instantly recognizable. He designed and printed the poster for the Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial for over thirty years. First launched in 1922, the annual Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial continues today; it is one of the longest-running celebrations of Native American culture and art in the country. Ewing's papers are held at the Smithsonian Institution, which seems to be the only repository for any of his work.
