[Manuscript Cadastral Map of Bastrop, Texas].

A handsome and informative plat map of the city of Bastrop, Texas in the late-19th century, likely produced by a real estate speculator offering plots of land in the town. The map consists of almost 170 individually-numbered plots -- smaller plots near the city center and larger plots farther out -- all bounded on the south by the Colorado River. At top right are several larger plots of land named according to the current owner, some of whom had been in town since at least the 1850s, such as P.O. Elzner and T.A. Hasler. It is this information which has assisted us in proposing the date for the present map as some time around 1910; it could be from slightly earlier, as both Elzner and Hasler had owned land prior to said date, but P.O. Elzner is known to have bought the Klockman home in 1910. The "City Park" is also defined. The section of plots near the town center include most street names, with one section running from Farm to Austin streets and another section running from Water to Railroad. For most of its lifespan, Bastrop has been a small, sleepy outer suburb of Austin, but in recent years, Elon Musk and Tesla have established a battery factory there, and plan to relocate the headquarters of social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in the town, as well.
