[Panoramic Photograph of a Segregated African-American Military Unit].

[N.p. n.d., ]. Panoramic photograph mounted on cardboard, 8 x 32.5 inches. Removed from frame, with some edge wear and minor chipping, and some abrasions around the edges. A few closed tears, minor fading to image. Good. Item #4118

A striking panoramic photograph featuring about a hundred members of a Black United States military unit around the time of the Second World War. The servicemen pose for the camera in three long rows, with their white officer corps numbering five men standing at front and center. The photograph is not captioned, and the only clue to their identity is their guidon, which reads "662." There were various 662nd units before, during, and after World War II, though this unit was very likely serving before or during the war, as President Truman officially desegregated the U.S. military in 1948.
