[N.p. n.d., ca. early-20th century]. Pastel portrait in black and white, on backing board, 19.75 x 16 inches. Removed from frame, with some edge wear, surface wear, and dust-soiling. Very good. Item #4115
A substantial and stunning portrait of an African-American woman standing amidst a flower garden in a white dress. A piece of backing cardboard behind the portrait when it was unframed has the name "Nellie Clark" next to a notation reading "$5" written on it. We are unsure whether this refers to the subject, artist, or neither, but could provide some indication for further research of one or the other. The image itself is an excellent depiction of a dignified African-American woman.
