Integration of Washington Schools [cover title].

Washington DC: American Friends Service Committee, April, 1954. [12]pp. Original pictorial wrappers, stapled. Minor edge wear and spotting to wrappers. Some offsetting to initial leaves from inserted newspaper clipping. Substantial underlining to text. Good. Item #3294

A scarce report by the American Friends Service Committee on the status of upcoming desegregation within the Washington, D.C. school district following the Brown v. Board of Education decision. The text details the ways in which Washington plans to become "a more democratic city, reaching toward the quality of community living which benefits the capital of a vigorous nation with high moral aspiration." The text presents the information in a Q&A format, covering issues relating to how integration was achieved in other cities, the steps to establish integration, the principles of school integration, how to meet parent complaints, and so forth. The present copy is made more appealing by the handful of additional papers laid in. This includes a newspaper clipping on integration and five documents relating to a meeting on the subject held in Arlington, Virginia at the Arlington Unitarian Church on February 20, 1955.
