The Literary Star. Vol. I, No. 3.
Stamford, CT: May, 1878. [4]pp., on a single folded sheet. Moderate toning, minor edge wear, three horizontal folds. Ink address in top margin. Overall very good. Item #13372
The May 1878 issue of a rare amateur magazine published by George A. Cooke and John A. Engel in late-19th-century Stamford, Connecticut. Ostensibly, the issue was printed as volume I, number 2, but the "2" has been crossed out and changed to "3." The ink address at top indicates the issue was sent to the publisher of another amateur publication, Every Month in West Meriden, Connecticut. Every Month was published by William G. Snow. The present issue includes the conclusion of a serialized story called "Let Us Consider the Ways," a section of "Short Notes," a long Editorial regarding an election for the National Amateur Press Association, and several advertisements. Rare, with only three institutional holdings in OCLC, at NYPL, the Connecticut Museum of Culture & History, and AAS.
