Stunning Lithographs of Six Shooters

Revolvers from Russell & Erwin Manufacturing Co. May, 1881.

New York: Lockwood Press, 1881. Illustrated broadside, 22 x 17 inches, printed on onionskin paper. Folded, minor wear and uneven toning. Very good. Item #13238

A handsome display broadside originally produced to advertise the revolvers available from the Russell & Erwin Manufacturing Company of New York. The broadside prints ten profile illustrations picturing five variations of the company's Robin Hood, four variations of the Union pistol, and the long cylinder .22-calibre Victoria. The Robin Hood and Union revolvers are pictured in .22, .32, and .38-calibre versions, with various-shaped barrels, cylinder lengths, and stock types. The bottom of the broadside indicates the prices were available "on application." The Russell & Erwin Manufacturing Company was originally based in New Britain, Connecticut and primarily concerned with producing padlocks, door hardware, and cast iron kitchenware. OCLC records mostly catalogues of the company's offerings, but nothing like the present broadside, with its own New York imprint.
