The Gulf Coast Grower: A Monthly Publication Devoted to the Horticultural and Agricultural Interests of the Gulf Coast, Western Florida, Southern Alabama, and Southern Mississippi.

Silverhill, Al: March 1923. 16pp. Quarto. Original color-printed wrappers, stapled. Minor wear and dust-soiling to wrappers, small chip to bottom of front wrapper near spine, two short closed tears to bottom edge of front wrapper. About very good. Item #12654

Volume 1, number 1 of this informative Alabama agricultural periodical, and likely the only issue published.  Most of the articles pertain to Satsuma oranges, but also include pieces on “Citrus Fruits of Japan,” “Insects and Diseases That Attack Citrus Fruits in Southern California,” and “Steps Taken by the Gulf Coast Citrus Exchange on Insect Control.”  The last article contains “Some Good Orange Recipes.”  The work also includes a healthy number of advertisements for local businesses in Mobile, Bay Minette, Loxley, and Silverhill, where the publisher was based; the latter prints an ad on the inside rear wrapper offering their job printing services.  Silverhill is located just about ten miles inland from Mobile Bay.  Seemingly unrecorded in OCLC, which does describe a slightly earlier periodical of the same name published in Mobile in 1916-17 with a different editor and publisher.
