Geometrical Proof of the Superiority of the Port of Mobile [wrapper title].
Mobile, Al: The Commercial Club, 1891. 24pp. Original illustrated wrapper printed in color. Minor wear and dust-soiling. Very good. Item #12647
A scarce promotional for the city of Mobile as a port, emphasizing transportation, commerce and industry, and the centrality of its location to various local ports of call. The work includes distance tables from various American cities to Mobile’s “Gulf Ports.” An epilogue authored by the Commercial Club of Mobile and dated January 1891 indicates the motivation behind the pamphlet: “Mobile’s first and greatest importance must be due to the absolute necessity for a commercial metropolis on the Gulf.” The “geometrical proof” promised in the title is illustrated on the rear wrapper, printed with a map of the southeastern United States and the Caribbean, triangulating Mobile as the center of commerce. A bit over a dozen copies in OCLC.
